NOTATION CREDENZA
Battery Park City Residence · New York · 2024

concrete, mahogany, birch plywood 120 × 13 × 30 in.

Inspired by the geometry of musical notation, I wanted the shape of the credenza to notate how the open space is used, defining distinct areas through a continuous form rather than physical partitions.

Made from cast concrete, it begins as a side table, wraps around the sofa as a credenza and children’s library before ending as a desk. I developed a custom pigment to match one of the tones in the surrounding rug before casting the concrete into individual panels that bolt together. Polished to a smooth, velvety finish, the panels form a continuous concrete ribbon that sweeps through space, with mahogany doors and curved ends giving warmth to its vertical faces.

The entire structure is modular, allowing a piece of this scale to be fabricated, transported, and installed as one continuous form.
